And right about that time, a new pay-per-click company by the name of Goto.com hit the scene (now called Overture/Yahoo).

I started making money fairly quickly and after a short while, I was making enough money to quit my job...or so I thought!

Mistake Number 1

Immediately after setting up my first web site, it was making a little over $2,000.00 per month within the first 90 days (this was gross sales, not profits). I figured I could grow the business quicker and make more money if I was at home working the business full-time. So I decided to quit my job. Instead of giving my boss a two-week notice, I told her to go jump in a lake.

Just kidding! This is how it really went down.

I walked into her office the next day and propped myself in her chair and threw my feet up on her desk. When she came around the corner and saw me sitting there, she was too shocked to say anything.

And with that, I took the opportunity to tell her the following...

"Since working here, I haven't been able to go fishing as often as I would have liked too; and on top of that, I've been struggling for a while trying to pay my bills on such a meager salary."

"And considering the fact I've been here for 2 years already, I just don't see how things will ever get better for me by working here. Therefore Ms. Murray, I've come to the conclusion that you all are taking up too much of my time and it's time for me to quit!"

Eight Weeks Later, I Was Begging For My Job Back

Talk about being shameless... I begged and begged and begged some more! And she eventually gave me my job back (I was a darn good employee when I was there, so that probably helped my case; and plus they were short-staffed already before I quit).

Why did I have to go back? Things didn't work out as well as anticipated. I was still a newbie on the Internet and hadn't been around long enough to recognize the 'trends' and 'patterns' of my business.

You see, I was selling a line of religious t-shirts and during the spring months, churches were buying in bulk for their fundraisers and mission trips (in other words, I was at the right place at the right time). Overall, business was doing great and thats why I quit.

Well, for me, everything came to a screeching halt right after I quit (it always seems to work out that way when you decide to do something). Sales slowed down and only later did I realize why. During the slow-down period, everybody was preparing for highschool and college graduations, people were planning their summer trips/vacations and people were just traveling all over the place.

Nobody was buying anything from me during that time. In addition to that, I was only using once source of advertising, which was foolish and as a result, everything just stopped for me. After only making a few dollars over the course of a few weeks, I had to go back and beg for my job.

I Quit 90 Days Later

While working at the job, I took advantage of the downtime and started studying books on Internet Marketing and one thing that caught my interests was the power of building an affiliate program.
